My mother has always inspired me to GIVE ... time, money, and prayer. We had real financial challenges - especially in my teenage years - and although we qualified for some government assistance programs such as food stamps - mom always saw to it that we still gave back in some fashion. Fast Forward to my Adult Years and owning a business for over 20 years - my favorite part was giving back and taking care of people in the community. My mom saw this in me, championed my efforts, and hands down was my biggest supporter. I sort of felt like she saw me as carrying on her mission in life. Following 3 surgeries in July of 2020 mom's cognitive decline became obvious and rapid. This role of carrying on her legacy of deep caring and service - especially to women - became even more meaningful and important to me.
Many of you know that on August 22nd after battling Dementia, my mom took her LAST BREATH in the front sun-filled room of my home. She was surrounded by family and we cared for her with so much love and gratitude for the opportunity.
On my Birthday, the day I celebrate our Mother/Daughter Forever Bond, I want to honor her legacy. There is a special story I will share on my Birthday of OUR last conversation and why DESIGNED FOR JOY just feels so good!
Thank you for considering ... and in typical mom and my style - yes, my GOAL is to EXCEED OUR GOAL.

MORE ABOUT DESIGNED FOR JOY from my amazing friend Suzanne Gifford, a major DFJ supporter and staff member:
Our Nonprofit partners refer women emerging from sex trafficking, homelessness, justice involvement, substance use, and refugees to Designed For Joy for immediate, living wage work. We offer a safe place to be, practice trusting others, meals, job training, and a reminder of their worth.
We provide a day work program with cash paid at the end of each day for women needing emergency funds, and a 3-month program for those ready and in need of work experience.
Your donations to Patty’s fundraiser will help Designed For Joy further their mission to supporting women in our community with a safe and supportive work environment.
