I love Design for Joy's mission to employ artisans to create beautiful works of art while at the same time helping them sustain their livelihood. The artisans are women in crisis in need of stability through immediate employment and support, removing the stigma of vulnerability. The jewelry and bags made and marketed at Designed for Joy are true works of art with a story behind every piece. It is a wonderful combination of providing women the benefits of crafting, design and working with their hands and simultaneously being rewarded and compensated for their creations.

For several years when my boys were young, I had an in home window treatment design business. My dream was to stay home with my boys and have a flexible schedule, yet still create something that made me feel fulfilled, joyful and make some extra money. I sewed window treatments and created upholstered cornices and my clients loved their unique and personal designs created just for them. I have always had a passion for design and crafts. Crafting and art can help reduce anxiety, improve mood and increase happiness. Receiving pay for your work is the icing on the cake. People love and appreciate art and handmade items. Design for Joy is full circle, providing a safe and supportive place to work, while creating beautiful products and compensating artisans for their creations.
